Biography

Dr Georgina Dyson-Horton

Georgina%20Headshot_edited.jpg

Georgina has held a private practice since 2008, is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, Jersey Care Commission, is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society, and holds memberships with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, and the Society for Existential Analysis.  She is a Doctor of Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy, has a Degree in Psychology and an Advanced Diploma in Counselling.

Georgina has a range of expertise having worked for several charities such as Macmillan Jersey, Brighter Futures, Brook Jersey, Victim Support & Rape Crisis, Jersey Focus on Mental Health, Rethink severe mental illness, and Hereford & Worcester Lesbian & Gay Switchboard.  Georgina also sits on the board of My Voice, an independent advocacy charity for mental health in Jersey.

These roles have built a solid foundation in understanding the complexity of human experience, the experience of mental illness, managing sexual health, the experience of abuse, dealing with cancer, the experience of loss and, of course, resilience.  Georgina also has experience of working in Compliance within the finance sector, the corporate environment, self-employment and the pressure and responsibility that these roles bring.

Georgina works holistically, so discussions about health and wellbeing are part of her approach.

Her counselling style is Existential; rather than seeing people in terms of symptoms or diagnosis, her approach centres around how we see the world and our individual experiences of it.  Our relationship to those around us and our circumstances are affected by the meanings and values we hold , which affect how we are able to live.  Surrounding all of this, Georgina is warm and friendly, and will do her best to put you at your ease.

Client Testimonial

“Georgina helped me massively with a range of issues. Her approach is calming, open and she listens to everything you say thoroughly. The techniques that Georgina taught me to deal with anxiety I use daily. I never felt like my feelings were invalid or strange.  I felt valued, supported and most importantly listened too when I had counselling.  I left each appointment with what felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.  I would recommend Confidential Counselling to anyone who needs it.”
